SMS Policy
Last updated: 15 June 2026
This SMS Policy explains how Bookso sends text messages on behalf of tradespeople who use the Bookso platform (the "Service"), and the choices recipients have. Bookso is the trading name of James Adams, trading from Nursery Gardens, Waltham Cross, EN7 6RZ.
1. Who sends the messages
Each SMS is sent by Bookso on behalf of the tradesperson (the "Business") that holds the customer relationship. The sender ID is a single UK mobile number operated by Bookso for two-way messaging. The Business is the data controller for its customer contact details; Bookso acts as its data processor for the purpose of delivering the message.
2. When you will receive a message
You will only receive an SMS from Bookso if you are a customer of a Business that uses Bookso and that Business holds your mobile number for the purpose of arranging or reminding you about a service appointment. Typical messages include:
- A reminder that a recurring service (for example a boiler service or window clean) is due, with a link to rebook.
- A short follow-up if you have not responded to the first reminder.
- Booking confirmations and updates relating to a job you have agreed.
3. Message frequency and cost
Frequency is low and tied to your service schedule. Most customers receive a small number of messages per year. Standard network rates apply for any reply you send; Bookso does not charge you for receiving or replying to messages.
4. Opting out: STOP and START
Every message includes the line "Reply STOP to opt out." Reply STOP at any time to the number that messaged you and we will stop sending SMS to that number across every Business that uses Bookso. The opt-out is recorded immediately.
Reply START from the same number to opt back in. Opting out of SMS does not opt you out of email reminders from the Business; contact the Business directly to change those.
5. Lawful basis
Service reminders are sent on the basis of the existing customer relationship between you and the Business (legitimate interests under UK GDPR, and the "soft opt-in" under regulation 22 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003). Marketing SMS is not sent through Bookso.
6. Data we process
To send and log an SMS we process your mobile number, the message body, delivery status returned by our SMS provider, and the time of sending. We log inbound replies to operate the STOP and START keywords and to provide replies to the Business that messaged you.
Messages are transmitted via our SMS provider (Twilio). See the Bookso Privacy Policy for details on retention, subprocessors and your rights under UK GDPR.
7. Contact
Questions about an SMS you have received, or to raise a complaint, email info@bookso.co.uk. You can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
